Your Depression, Your Choice
The sheer number of people suffering from depression is staggering. According to the World Health Organization, 300 million people across the globe are suffering with depression. That number is likely to rise, given the pressures we have to face on a day to day basis.
The prevalence of depression may be surprising, but what is even more surprising is the sheer number of people who assume there is one way to “cure” depression. Firstly, depression cannot be cured per se; it is managed and then the condition hopefully abates. Managing the potential for a recurrence is always on the mind of a previous depression sufferer. There is no magic pill you can take to get rid of depression, and even antidepressants don’t suddenly click their fingers and bam! Depression be gone!
Treating depression is an individual thing. Depression can vary wildly in severity, it can pop up, stay away for many years, and then come back for no apparent reason. Some people have one episode and never have another, whilst other people battle the condition in some degree every single day. We cannot predict depression and its patterns, and for that reason, how can you assume that treatment is a one size fits all deal?
Do one size clothes fit everyone? No! So don’t expect the same from a depression pill!
Medication May Help, But It’s Not the Only Route
Of course, the first thing people think of when it comes to depression treatment is antidepressant medication. These are very effective for many people, but equally as ineffective for others. Antidepressants often bring undesirable side effects, and they take quite a while to ‘kick in’ and show a noticeable effect. Some people stay on a very low dose of antidepressants over the long-term, particularly after a severe bout of the condition. Other people are able to wean themselves off successfully and never need them again.
We cannot predict how you will respond to antidepressants, but we can sit down and talk you through your options, coming to a individualized plan which suits you, and you alone. Here at Trifecta Health, that is our first port of call. We don’t simply write a prescription and say “here, try this”, we go through your options, and we explain what we can offer, what we can’t offer, and what we genuinely think may work for you. From there, it is your decision which route you go down, working in conjunction with the expert advice our highly qualified staff give to you.
Allowing someone else to tell you how to deal with your own depression isn’t giving you the control that you need. In order to banish depression from your life, you need to be the one doing the fighting, and that means making your own decision in terms of what you want to do about it. We are here to support you, advise you, and help you, but ultimately, the choice is yours.
If you’re struggling with depression, whether minor, moderate, or severe, don’t hesitate to give us a call today, and let us help you start your journey towards a brighter future.
